Audit & Assessment

ADA accessibility audit & assessment

Accessibility work usually begins and ends with an audit — a measured assessment of the current state of your site or application. You need a clear starting point, a prioritized list of issues, and a way to measure progress as fixes land.

Testing2GO evaluates all of your digital assets against the WCAG success criteria using automated tooling, hands-on manual review, and assistive-technology testing, then provides guidance your engineers can act on.

  • Automated and manual evaluationCoverage across the applicable WCAG 2.2 success criteria, not just what a scanner can see.
  • Recommendations and supportPractical remediation advice, with follow-up questions welcome during the fix cycle.
  • Inclusive processTesting that reflects how people with disabilities actually use the web.
Browsers & screen readersTested across the major browser and screen-reader combinations for real-world coverage.
Prioritized findingsIssues ranked by user impact and severity so your team knows what to fix first.

Audit Types

Types of website accessibility audits

Different stages of an accessibility program call for different depth. These are the three engagements I run most often.

Micro audit

A quick assessment of one or two key pages. Ideal for teams exploring accessibility and looking for a fast read on their current state.

Detailed audit

A thorough audit across representative templates and flows, testing against keyboards, browsers, screen readers, and automated tools.

Re-audit

Verification testing after issues have been addressed, validating fixes and updating the conformance report.

Test Coverage

Testing environments

Desktop screen readers

  • NVDA & JAWS — Chrome / Firefox / Edge on Windows
  • VoiceOver — Safari on macOS

Mobile screen readers

  • TalkBack — Chrome on Android
  • VoiceOver — Safari on iOS

Other testing

  • Keyboard-only and browser-zoom testing
  • Colour-contrast and reflow checks
  • Automated tooling — axe, Lighthouse, WAVE

Procurement & Compliance

VPAT / ACR documentation

Selling into government, higher education, healthcare, or enterprise? Procurement teams will almost always ask for an Accessibility Conformance Report (ACR) before they'll sign off on a purchase. I produce ACRs backed by real manual, automated, and assistive-technology testing — not a self-attested checklist filled out from a scanner report.

A VPAT (Voluntary Product Accessibility Template) is the standardized template published by the IT Industry Council (ITI) used to report how a product conforms to accessibility standards. Once it's completed with your product's actual test results, that document is called an ACR — in practice, "VPAT" and "ACR" are used interchangeably to mean the finished report.

  • Criterion-by-criterion evaluationEvery applicable success criterion is rated Supports, Partially Supports, Does Not Support, Not Applicable, or Not Evaluated, with a plain-language remark explaining the result.
  • Backed by real testingManual review, keyboard testing, and screen-reader testing behind every rating — not an automated scan relabeled as a VPAT.
  • RFP-ready deliverableA signed, dated ACR formatted to attach directly to RFP, RFI, and procurement questionnaire responses.

VPAT Editions Covered

VPAT 2.5 Rev 508

U.S. Section 508 — required for U.S. federal, state, and local government IT procurement.

VPAT 2.5 Rev WCAG

WCAG 2.0 / 2.1 / 2.2 at A, AA, or AAA — the standard most private-sector and higher-ed buyers request.

VPAT 2.5 Rev EU

EN 301 549 — the accessibility requirement referenced across the European Union.

VPAT 2.5 Rev INT

Combines 508, WCAG, and EN 301 549 into one report for global buyers and multinational RFPs.

FAQ

Website accessibility audit — FAQs

What is a website accessibility audit?

It's a structured evaluation of your website against the WCAG success criteria, combining automated scans, manual review, and assistive-technology testing to identify barriers for people with disabilities and to document your current conformance level.

What's the difference between a micro, detailed, and re-audit?

A micro audit is a quick look at one or two pages. A detailed audit covers representative templates and user flows in depth. A re-audit is verification testing after remediation, confirming fixes and refreshing the conformance report.

Which standards, browsers, and screen readers do you test against?

Audits are run against WCAG 2.2 / 2.1 AA, EN 301 549, and Section 508. Testing covers NVDA, JAWS, and VoiceOver on desktop, TalkBack and VoiceOver on mobile, plus keyboard-only navigation and automated tooling (axe, Lighthouse, WAVE).

What's included in the audit report?

An executive summary, page-wise detailed findings with WCAG references, screenshots, methodology, prioritization, technical remediation guidance, compliance status, automated tool output, and a scope-and-limitations section.

What happens after the audit is complete?

You receive the report and a walkthrough of the priorities. Your team remediates the issues — with support available for questions — and an optional re-audit validates the fixes and updates the conformance statement.

Do you provide VPAT / ACR documentation?

Yes. A VPAT (Voluntary Product Accessibility Template) is the standard template used to report conformance; once it's completed with real test results for your product, it becomes an Accessibility Conformance Report (ACR). I test against the applicable success criteria and deliver a signed, dated ACR in the 508, WCAG, EU (EN 301 549), or combined International edition — ready to attach to RFP and procurement responses.
